Residents of Nayoku, a farming community in West Mamprusi district of the northern region, are now enjoying bumper harvest as they have succeeded in increasing their crop yields by more than 50%.
This is as result of the mentor-ship and training programs on improved methods of farming they benefited from under the Integrated Agricultural Productivity Improvement and Marketing Project by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) with financial support from the Alliance for
Greening Revolution in Africa (AGRA). The farmers who have adopted compose manure as a substitute for chemical fertilizer, are recording more than three times their usual yields when they were using chemical fertilizer.
The three-year project which ends by the end of September 2015, was implemented in hundred and ninety-seven communities in ten districts in the northern region.
Out of eleven thousand, four hundred and four beneficiaries, 39.2% are female and the rest are males.
